SENIORs: Survival Camp Note to Parents

To the Senior's Parents,

Please note that safety is our outmost consideration and priority for our upcoming Senior's Survival camp. The reason why your child is unable to tell you much is because they have been minimally informed in order to train them to be able to  expect the unexpected. We plan to help them discovery where their personal envelope is and to push beyond that. We are working together with an experienced Adventure Outfitter who will be facilitating all the activities. Please ensure that they do get enough rest the night before and do keep us all in your prayers.

Venue: Gopeng, Perak
Going: Assemble at the No.8 Cafeteria at PBC by 7.00am sharp on Thursday, 16th July. Bus leaves at 7.30am sharp.
Return: Back to PBC by 5.30pm on Sunday, 19th July (ETA)

In the event of emergency, please call any of the officers' mobile as there should be some mobile coverage where we will be.

Do cover us in your prayers for:
1.    Journey's mercy for the travelling from PJ to Gopeng and back 
2.    Good weather as the members will be hiking into the campsite and living under very basic condition 
3.    Safety for all the activities that we will be carrying out 
4.    Protection from harm, illnesses and medical problems. 
5.    Pray that the members will learn to trust and lean on God in their times of need and suffering as well as to learn to take care of one another 
6.    Pray that all the officers will be able to oversee the camp with God's wisdom and guidance

Seniors, please note that we will NOT have regular parade for this week. We will only have Band, Recruit Target Badge test and visit to 2nd Subang Jaya Company to celebrate their E&A day together. So if you are not attending any of the above, please don't come to church!

Note: Study hard for your test! Your marks will commensurate how much effort you put in to revise! If you don't pass by before E&A, you will not get any award, ok?!

1.30pm - Depart from PBC to FBC for Band and Recruits ONLY (one way only). The rest who are not in Band or Recruit, please meet at FBC.

Worship team - being arranged by LCpl Jin Kiat (see him if you are interested)
GOH - will be arranged by Lt. Joe Chan

Please note that we will be having a briefing/training by the Outfitter for our upcoming Survival Camp. It is compulsory for all the camp attendees to attend.

The briefing/training will cover:
- Map and typography reading
- Navigation and orienteering 
-Jungle survival and ethics
- Strict packing list, what to bring and what is NOT allowed. 
- Jungle survival and emergency skills
- Knots with different types of ropes

EVERYONE MUST bring the items below for the class, you will appreciate your notes DURING camp.
- notebook
- long ruller
- pencil 
- ROPE (white rope that can be bought from any uniform shop) scouts rope

Also this is a good time to think about your gear from the Bukit Gasing experience.. if it does not work, fix it or borrow a new one. If your backpack is way too big for you, please look for a more suitable sized backpack. Do a checkpoint to ensure that you have all the gears that you will need. 

SENIORs: Agenda for 27th June 2015 - Bukit Gasing

Band will be as normal from 8.30 - 11.30am. Please prepare for worship as normal.

Note that we will hiking up Bukit Gasing this coming Saturday. We will meet as usual parade time from 2.00 - 6.30pm. Dress code for parade will be sports/hiking attire (you do not need to come in mufti or uniform) with sports/hiking shoes but please no revealing clothes coz I no bring sarong!

We will split the section into Platoon 1 and 2. Platoon 1 will head up to Bk Gasing using the counter clockwise Southern route while Platoon 2 will take on the clockwise Northern route. I am attaching the maps of Bk Gasing so please do take a look at them and be familiar with the place especially the terrain.

Platoon 1
Head to the Main Entrance into the nature park south of the playground 
Head towards Checkpoint 1 - the Watch Tower
Proceed northwards pass the "Killer Stretch" and loop down to the suspension bridge
Exit from the Northern exit near Jalan 5/17
Head back to 22 in PBC

Platoon 2
Head to the Northern entrance by Jalan 5/17
Head towards the suspension bridge and loop up towards the "Killer Stretch" 
Head south towards the Watch Tower
Head down and out from the South Main Entrance
Head back to 22 in PBC

Things to bring:
- Backpack
- 4 x 1.5L or 12 x 500ml water bottles (not for drinking)
- Drinking water bottle(s)
- Towel
- Poncho
- Cap/hat
- Your shoes you are planning to wear to hike into the camp
- One full set of dry clothes, towel, shoes etc in the event you get all soaked in the rain (to be left behind in 22)

Survival Camp - Please get all your orders to SSGT Yvonne by this Saturday and bring your money as well as we will need to get the stuffs soon. We will order the backpack after this Sat in hope of getting them by 20th June so that you can test it out during the hike up to Bukit Gasing.

SENIORs: Cooking Competition on 13th June 2015 - Leaves, Grass, Bark & Spices

Folks,

Please do work with your squad to finalize your cooking competition details for 13th June 2015. We will start cooking right after worship. Some updates:

  1. You will be provided with the condiments. Should you choose to use your own, that is acceptable
  2. You CAN season or marinate your meat or prepare your sauces ahead of time at home but please note that this is only for things that will require some time to set/marinate and cannot be prepared on the spot.
  3. There will be 3 judges to sample the food. Just make sure there is enough sample size for 3 persons. You will also need to have enough food to share with your whole squad.
  4. Each squad will be given only 1 stove so plan accordingly.

JUNIORs & PRE-JUNIORs CAMP: Prayer Request

The Juniors and Pre-Juniors will be away for camp from 30th May to 1st June 2015 at Ulu Yam. 

Camp Theme : 1 Timothy 4:12 Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young but set an example for the believers in speech, conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

Please keep them in your prayers for :

       Overall Camp - that everything will run smoothly,

       Fine weather throughout,

       Journey mercies for the buses and also those in private cars

       Safety throughout the camp

       Officers, helpers, seniors -

        that God will prepare our hearts to be used by Him to connect with the kids

        all will do their assigned tasks with excellence and humility.

       Campers -

        good health before & during camp,

        that God will touch their hearts to put Him first their lives

        discover that God has a part in their daily lives.

        Through the activities prepared, pray that each member will learn team work, care for each other.

       Parents back at home - to have the peace of God & to trust Him
